Application Support; Hadoop; UNIX; SQL; Python; Data Science; KDB; London; Equities

One of my clients, a reputable Investment Bank, is recruiting for a truly unique Application Support lead opportunity in London. The role is for a talented Application Support Analyst to join a newly formed team and start-up their London support presence (autonomous at first) supporting a new Data Analytics platform used globally.

You will be providing first-class technical support to several different users which includes traders, business leads, quants and VIP's and you will be expected to have a proven track record in dealing with demanding users in a front-office environment.

The platform itself has only been rolled out to Equities thus far and so has a 200-250 userbase. However, it is scheduled to be rolled out to Fixed Income and FX soon so this is likely to treble in its userbase and you will be the key support point in London, working with your global peers to provide a follow-the-sun support service. There is also a host of new development plans to build out a suite of new apps on the platform so you will also be involved in this from a support perspective.

The technical environment is as follows:

  • Unix/Linux (must have)
  • SQL (must-have)
  • Hadoop (must have worked with it before - not to a development standard)
  • Python (must have worked with it before - not to a development standard)
  • Kdb (massively advantageous but not essential).

Aside from that, you must have good front-office support experience (ideally in Equities) and a good grasp of supporting market data systems, although this is not a deal breaker.

The role has the added benefit of being one which can grow in its significance as the platform is rolled out and there might be a chance to hire others into the team in the future whilst also managing offshore teams.

This is a genuinely rare opportunity to join something exciting in a cutting-edge environment and in a team that is being given priority backing from the Bank.

The expectation is that you will be working from home for the forseeable future followed by a flexible arrangement thereafter.
