IT Infrastructure Engineer - Buy-Side Technology - London (Hybrid)
We are partnering with a buy-side firm in London that is looking to hire an Infrastructure Engineer to help build, improve, and take ownership of their internal infrastructure environment. This is a hands-on engineering role with a strong focus on Linux, automation, and infrastructure improvement rather than pure support.
The firm is in the process of bringing more infrastructure capability in-house and reducing reliance on external providers, so this role offers a genuine opportunity to influence how infrastructure is managed, automated, and developed going forward.
The Opportunity
- You will be responsible for maintaining and improving the infrastructure that supports trading systems, development environments, and internal platforms. The role sits alongside a platform team working on cloud and platform tooling, and you will work closely with them while focusing more on core infrastructure, Linux systems, storage, and data centre environments.
- This role would suit someone who enjoys fixing inefficiencies, automating manual processes, and introducing better ways of managing infrastructure rather than just keeping systems running.
What You'll Be Doing
- The role will involve a mix of infrastructure engineering, automation, and project work. This includes managing Linux servers and storage environments, improving monitoring and resilience, automating operational tasks, and working on infrastructure projects such as storage migrations, data centre moves, and cloud build-outs.
- You will also work with third-party providers, helping to guide and challenge them where necessary, while gradually bringing more knowledge and ownership internally.
- There is a strong focus on improving how things are done, so the firm is looking for someone who will bring ideas, suggest better tools or approaches, and help modernise parts of the environment over time.
Current & Upcoming Projects
There are several major infrastructure projects planned, including:
- A storage migration and redesign
- A data centre move planned for 2026
- Ongoing Azure environment build and cloud adoption
- Migration and rebuild of servers onto newer Red Hat versions
- Continued rollout of automation and infrastructure-as-code
Technical Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux
- Physical servers and on-prem infrastructure
- Storage and NFS environments
- Terraform and Ansible
- Bash and Python scripting
- Azure and some AWS
- VMware and container platforms
- HashiCorp tooling
What They're Looking For
- They are looking for a strong Infrastructure Engineer with a Linux background who is comfortable working in production environments and taking ownership of systems. The right person will be practical, technically curious, and comfortable working independently while still collaborating with developers and platform engineers.
- Experience in financial services or regulated environments is preferential. More important is experience working in structured, enterprise-level environments rather than purely consultancy or short-term project environments.
- An appreciation of AI technology is highly desirable
Working Environment
The team is relatively small, decisions can be made quickly, and engineers are given the freedom to implement improvements and new technologies where they see value. This role would suit someone who enjoys having ownership, contributing ideas, and being recognised for improving systems rather than just maintaining them.
Hybrid working model: 3 days in the London office, 2 days from home.
Salary: £110k-£130k + bonus + benefits
